My friends, my latest novel, SOUTHDOWN, was submitted to the new Amazon Kindle Scout program. I’m asking that you go to the website, Kindlescout.Amazon.com and nominate my book for publication. It won’t cost you a thing! Go to the Recently Added Section, click on the book cover, read the excerpt and vote. That’s it!
I thank you in advance.
I took a chance and for shits and giggles submitted one of my novels, SOUTHDOWN, to Amazon’s new Kindle Scout program. They accepted it and it will launch on 09/11/2015. Please, my fellow writers, visit the website and nominate my book for publication.
It is written under my pen name of Sean Pall.
Thanks in advance.
In my latest book, there was a scene where the family is spending the Thanksgiving holiday at their beach house on Big Pine Key. I expressed four days of activity and safely got everyone home after the holiday. As I went back over this section I realized that I was missing a character. Her name is Mei Lin, a diminutive Chinese girl from the Altay region where China, Russia, Khazakstan, Uzbekistan and other exotic countries meet. In fact, Mei Lin knows all of those languages.
She was found as a stowaway after completion of a smuggling run from Haiti to Haulover Park in North Miami. Mei Lin was amongst a dozen Chinese girls destined for slave labor in nail and massage parlors up and down the east coast.
As is their standard MO, the main characters “adopted” Mei Lin, taking her into their home. She played a big part in my last book which is why I was upset that I had forgotten her now!
Good news is, I re-wrote that section and Mei Lin is back where she belongs. Maybe the family is getting too big, are fourteen members too much? I don’t think so, guess I should just watch out for everyone in the future.
Does God punish us through the actions of others? One of my characters is wondering this causing me to wonder about it, too. A loved one becomes sick and her deteriorating health now takes up a majority of the character’s time. Diaper changes, baths in the bed, feeding and dressing have him believing that God is punishing him by making the one person he loves the most suffer thus dragging him down at the same time. He realizes it’s a test of his love for this woman, he knows the situation is not going to get any better, there will be no peace until she passes on or he totally wears himself out and he also believes that it is because of misdeeds in his past. As a government assassin he has murdered several people who’s crimes he thought were no worse than his own. Does God have that in mind as he tortures this man’s loved one?
For the first time in a long time I scrapped a beginning to a novel. A prologue and two chapters. Forty-six pages. Ugh!
I felt like I had to do it because everything was moving too slowly. It was laborious.
Again, the characters took me by the hand and led me in the proper direction that produced 114 pages in one sitting. In fact, I could not put word to page fast enough.
Funny how these things turn out. If I had struggled along with the original story line would I have eventually gotten back on the right track? I’m not sure. That’ s why I scrapped it and listened to my muse and went down an entirely new path.
Sometimes you have to be open to change.
In the midst of editing a recent manuscript I had a continuity problem that led me back to my previous manuscript for some fact checking and that drew me into a bout of editing that story that pushed me into changing a plot line.
By the time I plodded through all of that I’d forgotten what I was after in the new manuscript!
I’d pull my hair out but I don’t have much to spare. Perhaps if I kept notes or made an outline, but for me that erodes spontaneity and I like to wander around in my writing.
I had a friend who, as part of his psychosis, could perform the mechanics of copulation seemingly forever. He didn’t derive any pleasure from it but he had women lining up around the block to see him. I have incorporated this into my main character’s bio.
Brandt Zigthaler can achieve and maintain an erection and perform the mechanics of sex for hours. His body is in the moment but his mind and psyche are on another plain. Thankfully, he’s married to someone who recognizes when his mind has wandered and knows the triggers that will bring him back into the moment so he can concentrate and achieve an orgasm.
Of course this allows Maya to regulate Brandt. She dictates how long the sex will last depending upon her needs.
Pretty sneaky, huh?
I recently finished the latest novel in my DC Tactical series. It came out to be 506 pages. I proceeded to begin my next title when I ran across a manuscript that’s over a thousand pages. Yikes! How do I trim it down? It follows three separate plot lines with separate casts of characters that are finely interwoven throughout. What do I pull, what do I keep? I guess I could break it into two parts, but does that sell? Guess I need more time to bang my head against the wall.
JUST finished novel number eight. Now I’m in a vacuum. Should I wait to edit or start #9? Or, should I just relax? After all
it’s summertime. Of course here in the tropics its summer all the time, right? Should probably start new book just to get on paper basic plot line then come back.
What do you think? Let me know.
